CJCUC Condemns Recent Vandalism Against Christian Holy Sites

The Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation in Israel condemns the most recent vandalism against Jerusalem’s Church of the Dormition Abbey. This attack and others like it have no place in Israel, which is committed to protect the religious rights and property of all its citizens independent of their religious identification.
Such ugly destructive attacks are the product of hatred and vengeance. They disturb the stability and cohesiveness of Israeli society.
It is not enough to condemn these acts. We call on the government of Israel, its police, and security services to identify the perpetrators of these acts against Christian personnel and property, to bring them to trial and punish them without delay. In addition, the government of Israel must take steps to prevent the repetition of such intolerant acts.
Acts of Jewish extremism, violence and vandalism against Christians harms the State of Israel internally and in the eyes of the world. They are a stain on the Jewish State. Effectively addressing and eliminating this recurring problem must be a first priority for the government of Israel.
